LUB DUB - BA

Balé do Teatro Castro Alves - Salvador

Creation of the South Korean dancer, choreographer and composer Jae Duk Kim, the choreography is an intense alternation of movements of traction and trembling, dynamism and relaxation, ritual and contemporary, and has been conquering audiences wherever it goes. The curious name of the show is a reference to the sound of the beating of the heart. The medicine calls ‘lub’ and ‘dub’ the first two (or major) heart sounds that represent the bubble produced by the opening and closing of the valves that allow the passage of the blood. Thus, the title is a metaphor of the sounds and beats of life, of humanity and its vital energy, which motivates and sustains the movement of the body that walks, thinks, turns, pulsates, meditates, observes, protests, fights, express itself, communicates. In “Lub Dub”, the dancers have percussion as a sound and physical motivation. The choreographic structure is developed by the peculiar characteristics of the choreographer: oscillation between absolute silence and vertigo in a matter of instants, always in close relation with the soundtrack. Jae Duk Kim also signs the soundtrack, which is based on percussive instruments of the Eastern and Western cultures, incidental effects, singing and live sounds.
